PhD Programme

In general, a Master's degree or Diploma is the qualification to enter the PhD programme. Admission to the PhD programme is only possible if one of the professors of the Department of Mathematics is willing to supervise a PhD student. As each professor can only supervise a limited number of students, the admissions to the PhD programme are restricted.

The PhD programme is completely research-based. In most of the applied research areas, PhD candidates work on projects related to real-world problems in their PhD thesis. To work on these projects, the candidates will have co-supervisors from the industry or the Fraunhofer-Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM).

Students coming from developing countries may participate in a specific PhD programme called "Mathematics in Industry and Commerce". Every year, the DAAD provides about 4-5 scholarships for the programme.
