Research
With its research focusses in Algebra, Geometry & Computer Algebra, Analysis & Stochastics, Industrial Mathematics and Economathematics, the department of mathematics has prioritized attractive scientific and socially relevant areas. This and its current mathematical proficiency establish a sound basis for being nationally and internationally competitive.
Felix Klein Center for Mathematics
Most research groups of the faculty closely collaborate with departments of the Fraunhofer ITWM. The well-established networking and inter-institutional research cooperation of the department of mathematics and the Fraunhofer ITWM has been documented by the foundation of the Felix Klein Center for Mathematics. Thanks to the combination of the widely recognized and outstanding research programs of the department of mathematics, and the open-to-the-world and practically oriented projects of the Fraunhofer ITWM, the Felix Klein Center will undoubtedly strengthen the position of Kaiserslautern in the field of mathematics.
Research Center (CM)²
Researchers from all research units of the department of mathematics substantially contribute to the inter-disciplinary research center Center for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (CM)² at the University of Kaiserslautern. This research center aims at upgrading the mathematical modelling of technological and natural scientific processes to an integrated technology for construction and analysis by extending and improving the computer aid (from data handling to efficient implementations and visualization of results) as well as by increasingly including the knowledge and competences of the users. This is the basis for new simulation-based technological products and for a better understanding of complex processes. At the same time, this collaboration of different disciplines should give stimuli for application-oriented fundamental research in mathematics and for a problem-based networking of the involved research units of the faculty of mathematics.
