The department of mathematics offers various study programmes. Among them courses of study leading to the degree of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) as well as courses of study leading to the degree of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a doctorate programme. In addition, the faculty offers a teacher training programme in mathematics (B.Ed., M.Ed.) which prepares students for teaching at Gymnasium, Realschule plus, or vocational school level.

of the department guarantee comprehensive course offers in attractive topics of pure and applied mathematics. The student may take profit of the close collaboration of the department of mathematics with the Fraunhofer ITWM in the framework of the Felix Klein Centers for Mathematics.

Rankings and Awards

The academic programme at our faculty enjoys an exceptionally good reputation – one that has received high honors and recognition. 

In 2008, an excellence prize has been awarded to our study programmes in the "Exzellenzwettbewerb Studium und Lehre" of the federal state Rhineland-Palatinate.

In addition, already three professors of our faculty have been awarded a federal state teaching prize for teaching excellence. And, last bot not least, in all german university rankings since 2003, the university of Kaiserslautern has been one of the top ranking universities in mathematics.
