How to install Singular using fink
----------------------------------

Fink is a well-known package format for Mac OS X. 
(see http://fink.sf.net)

There are two packages: singular-doc and singular.

They are available for 10.3 and 10.4 (in fink called 10.4-transitional).

If you have fink installed, just try the following:

1.Start your Fink Commander

2. After updating the package list,
   there should appear "singular" and "singular-doc" as packages

3. Install it from sources (fink will do that automatic for you).

For most installations this should work.

For the case, that something fails:

Possible error sources

- No developer tools installed: 
  install XCode from the apple developer connection


- 10.3 needs the November 2004 Developer Tools update (else it will complain)
  installable also from the apple developer connection 
  under "GCC updates November 2004"

- Fink should be so installed that it also downloads the info files for building
  from source (see http://fink.sf.net), this could also give access
  to more recent versions

Also note, that if you select in the preferences of the Fink Commander
"use packages from unstable"
you will be able to get more up to date versions of Singular
