Duration

The duration of the Master Programme amounts to four semesters (2 years), whereby the fourth term is reserved for the writing of the thesis. The academic year at the University of Kaiserslautern is divided into two semesters:

During the Winter semester, most of the lectures are held from mid October until mid February and during the Summer semester from mid April until mid July. Exams are scheduled during the lecture free time. The programme commences at the beginning of the Winter as well as at the Summer semester.

An obligatory German language and integration course for non German speaking students starts mid of February and beginning of August.

Study Programmes and Specializations

There are four different study programmes to earn the degree Master of Science:

The main differences between the four programmes are the possible and required minor (nonmathematical) subjects. Mathematics International is especially designed for international students with a pure mathematical Bachelor degree without a minor subject and for German students, who will at least spend one semester of their Masters studies at a partner university abroad.

Already with their application, students choose a study specialization from

All Students have to collect 120-132 credit points, whereof 6 credits belong to two seminars and 30 to the Master thesis, which is written during the last semester. Depending on the study programme, the remaining credit points must be earned from lectures of the following categories:
