Are you interested in a degree in Mathematics which allows you to start your career in industry or economics after ONLY 6 SEMESTERS?
Then you should take a look at the study programme "Bachelor in Mathematics." The Bachelor offers a degree that is directly oriented to the demands of the economy. There is emphasis on applied mathematics, internships, and physical-technical and economic basics.
Mathematics, Computer, Engineering, and Economy
The study programme offers solid mathematical basics in close connection to economic and technical applications. As a graduate you will be put in position to understand technical and economical problems, with mathematical methods to model, analyse, solve, and interpret them in real situations. The knowledge necessary to do this will be gained through computer and software usage, work done in the internship, and the compact courses. The mathematical modelling and the presentation of knowledge will be practised in the seminars. At the end of the programme, students must complete a 3-month final project which can be accomplished in cooperation with an appropriate firm.
The programme consists of the following connected components:

The contact to the practical use of mathematics in the economy will be increased through the internship.
From Beginner to Mathematician in Industry and Economy
During the first four semesters the mathematical foundations are laid. These are analysis and linear algebra followed by practical mathematics (stochastic, numerical methods, optimization) and further optional courses in theoretical areas. From the beginning the lectures are accompanied by software applications and exercises. Parallel to these subjects is the formation of the students' knowledge in the economics, physical-technical subjects and computer science. This offer is complemented through compact courses in the field of computer science during the semester breaks, along with an internship. Through this, one can experience how mathematics can be used in the context of industrial and economic surroundings.
For the last two semesters you can choose one area from the various choices offered by the department. One seminar in mathematical modelling offers you the ability to solve economical and technical problems with the help of mathematics. All this leads to a final project in which you show that you have been properly prepared for a career as a mathematician.

With the Bachelor programme in Mathematics, you will complete your studies and be offered the opportunity to enter an attractive job market.
You will also have the opportunity to continue your studies at the university to attain a higher degree through the "Mathematics International" Masters programme. |
Duration
The duration of studies in the Bachelor Programme amounts to 6 semesters. The academic year at the University of Kaiserslautern is divided into two semesters, one winter semester (1st October to 31st March) and one summer semester (1st April to 31st September). During the winter semester, most of the lectures are held from mid October until mid February and during the summer semester from mid April until mid July. The programme commences at the beginning of the winter semester.
Prerequisite
Prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor Programme are:
Knowledge of the German language is not a necessary prerequisite, but foreign students have to pass a German language test after one year. German language courses are offered, starting in August. Students who cannot attend these courses have to start to learn the German language in their home country.
In order to give an impression about the expected knowledge in mathematics it is possible to download a word file with the detailed information about the mathematics courses at a German high school.
Application
Application for the Mathematics International Programme must be formally submitted through an application form.
In addition to the application form, further documents must be submitted:
*If you do not receive your certificate before the deadline, please contact us.
Application deadline
Taking into consideration the VISA formalities for foreign applicants, the application deadline is 30th April (early bird: 15th November), at the University of Kaiserslautern.
Foreign students should take into consideration the application deadlines for scholarships, which are often earlier.
Application fee
A non-refundable application fee of 50 € applies. After
submitting your application you will be informed about bank details and
given a registration number to identify your application fee payment. Your
application is only processed after the fee is credited to our account.
It is recommended to submit the application in good time as payments
take some time. Exempt from this procedure are: exchange students of
partner universities (e.g., ERASMUS students) and foreign students with
a degree in mathematics from a German university (Vordiplom, Diplom).
DAAD scholarship recipients will be refunded their application fee.
