Information on the Resit Examination in Linear Algebra I
Date:
The examination takes place on Saturday, 24th April, 2004, from
9am-12pm in Room 42/115.
Contents:
The questions will be concerned with the whole lecture
Linear Algebra I.
Type and Number of Questions:
The questions will be similar to the exercises set for the example
class. At least one of the questions will be concerned with a
SINGULAR procedure.
We will set 9 questions, but you are not supposed to answer all of
them. It therefore is not recommendable work linearly through the
exercises, but rather to start with those questions which you
like.
Allowed Means of Help:
You may bring your own lecture notes, your notes from the example
and support classes, any other type of printed lecture notes and
books on linear algebra to the examination, and you may consult
these throughout the exam. The use of technical equipment like
calculators, computers, etc. is not sensible and hence
not allowed. I want to stress the fact that the use
of printed lecture notes and books can only be helpful if you
have worked through them in advance! The hope to find help or
even a solution to a question in books which you do not know by
heart is a waste of time!
Citation of Results in the Examination:
Any definition, statement and result from the lecture or the
exercises (set for the example classes) may be used. In case you
want to refer to these in your solution to a question it is
recommendable to cite them by their name or number - like, ``by
Theorem 10.3'', ``by the definition of the notion 'group' '', or
``as shown in Exercise 38''.
Paper:
Every participant has to bring his own paper. Please make sure that
you carry sufficiently many single sheets of paper. You have
to answer every question on a separate sheet of paper (never
answer two different questions on the same sheet of
paper!!!). Every sheet of paper has to bare the following
information on its top: your own name, the number of
the question answered on this sheet of paper, and
the name of your tutor.
Recommendation for your Preparation:
You should know your own hand written lecture notes by heart, so
that you can judge which part of your notes might be helpful in
answering the questions and where to find those in your notes.
Apart from that it might be helpful to ``redo'' those exercises
from the example classes which you didn't solve correctly.
Order of the Seatings in the Examination
Hall:
Starting with the front row of the lecture hall 42/115 only every
second row will be used for sitting, and only every fourth seat in
a row.
End of the Examination:
At the end of the examination you will remain seated until your
name has been called for bringing your papers to the front of the
hall.
