  • PDE constrained optimal control problems
    • asymptotic limits and numerics
    • application in semiconductor design: the constraint changes from a PDE to an algebraic equation
    • application in swarm optimization: the constraint changes from a large ODE system to a Vlasov type PDE
    • model order reduction using an instantaneous control approach instead of optimal control
  • Global optimization schemes based on particle/swarm interaction
    • the mean-field limit is used to obtain a PDE which can be investigated with probabilistic methods to obtain a convergence proof for a class of objective functions
