How to setup your math-email-address

Together with your account on the CIP cluster of the department, you receive an e-mail address in the following form: 'account'@mathematik.uni-kl.de. You can check your e-mails via our Webmail interface, forward your e-mails to an already existing RHRK-email-address, or collect your emails from an IMAP-capable email client program like Thunderbird or Outlook.

Forwarding your emails

If you want to have your emails forwarded to your RHRK-address, please write an informal email to support(at)mathematik.uni-kl.de or ask one of the members of the CTM (room 48-525) to configure the forwarding.

Configuring IMAP

For the following description, the program Thunderbird will be used; it is installed on the CIP pool. Configuring other programs is supposed to be similar.

Starting Thunderbird for the first time, the import assistant opens. Please choose “Skip this and use my existing email” . During the next step enter your name, your e-mail address, which is your account name appended with “@mathematik.uni-kl.de“ and password. In the next window, please use the data provided in the table to the right/below.

Please note that e-mails checked via IMAP will not be deleted afterwards, they are stored on the server permanently. At the moment, the maximum storage quota per user on the server (= e-mails and data in the CIP pool) is 2 GB, which means that you might not receive any new e-mails if you have already stored too many old e-mails or your storage volume is exceeded due to too much data in your home directory. It is therefore necessary to either delete old e-mails from time to time, especially those with attachments, or to move them to folders on your local computer and delete unused data from your home directory (and your recycle bin).
